I firmly believe that craps has no equals when it comes to casino games. It is not the most popular of all of them, but definitely the most exciting and intriguing. If you start playing it you are bound to get hooked and enjoy playing it for a long time.
If you browse around on the internet you are sure to also come across a vast number of craps strategies or systems that people are selling. These systems offer the world at a never-to-be-repeated price and it will turn you into the next multi-millionaire. The bad news: This is not true.
Okay so that is not the whole truth. There is one thing you can do to control the outcome of the dice when playing craps, but this is only when playing at a regular casino. It is referred to as dice control .
Dice control is however not an easy thing to learn and takes lots of practice. The problem is that in most casinos they require you these days to throw the dice so that they hit the back wall of the craps pit before they roll back and come to a stop.
When using dice control you need to practice throwing the dice with the same velocity, at the same height, for the same distance and with the same amount of spin, or lack thereof. The only problem now is that if you hit the back wall, which is covered in little protruding pyramids, you have absolutely no control over what they will end up on. So sadly your hours and hours of practice would be in vain.
There are various other systems floating around that you would be able to use, which would sometimes be successful. The downside is that if they are unsuccessful, they are close to catastrophic.
As the results of the dice rolled are totally random, you would not be able to count on any numbers being due to come out. This is all based on gut feelings and things like that, which have no merit when it comes to gambling. You are very likely to see a certain number regularly over a few rolls and then not see it coming up again for the next few hundred rolls.
Although such perceptions are fairly naïve, there are far more dangerous so called systems floating around. One is the dreaded Martingale system, which is also used often by roulette players. It is a progressive betting system, which is mathematically sound, but it doesn’t take into account all of the variables.
It works on the principle of doubling your bet after every losing bet. If you win you start at the smallest number again and repeat the sequence. If all goes well, you would end up winning the size of your original smallest bet every time you win.
In theory this sounds great, but lets have a look at an example of this craps strategy at work. First lets look at the good side:
You bet $5 and lose. So you bet $10 and you lose. Then you bet $20 and you lose. Then you bet $40 and you have a winner! You would have placed bets totaling $75 and the win from that last one would be $80. So you would have won a total of $5.
Now the down side of the system:
Lets say you go through the same sequence of losses, but also hit a bit of a bad run and bet$40 and lose, then $80 and lose and then $160 and lose… you might run into one of two problems.
The first problem is that you might wipe out your whole bank roll before winning again, as you would have placed $315 in bets by this stage. Alternatively there might be a limit on the bet size at the table. So now you would not be able to bet $320 on the next bet, but only $200. So you are screwed.
If you think at it logically you might wonder why someone would be selling their fool proof system and not be using it themselves. If it was so wonderful they could just visit casinos or play online at will and just keep raking in the money.
I know this might not be much help in your search for that ultimate craps strategy. I wanted however to point out to you that craps is a game of luck and meant to be enjoyed for what it is: great and fast-paced gambling fun.
